В первом круге он победил итальянца Лоренцо Музетти – 6:3, 6:3, а во втором одолел россиянина Карена Хачанова – 6:3, 7:6. В 1/4 финала Джоковичу в соперники достался игрок, ставший главной сенсацией турнира – чех Иржи Веселы, занимающий сейчас 123-е место в рейтинге ATP. Он в основную сетку пробился через квалификацию, а затем обыграл двух известных теннисистов – чемпиона US Open – 2014 Марина Чилича и одного из триумфаторов прошлой недели Роберто Баутиста-Агута.
